Prednisone is a prescription medication used to treat such conditions as low levels of corticosteroids, severe allergic reactions, lupus, conditions affecting eyes, kidneys, skin, stomach and intestines, as well as some types of cancer. If you have to take the concentrated solution your pharmacist will provide you with a specially marked dropper that will allow taking the precise dosage recommended. Depending on how you respond to the treatment your dosage may be altered – it can be increased if you do not feel the effects of this medicine or decreased if it is causing some serious side effects in you.

Continue to use prednisone as prescribed even if your symptoms improve significantly. If you stop taking this drug without previously discussing this step with your health care provider, your body will not have enough steroids to function properly. Mention to your doctor the following medicines in case of taking them at the moment of starting your prednisone treatment as your dosage may need to be adjusted: blood thinners, antifungals, clarithromycin, HIV protease inhibitors, diuretics, fluoxetine, aspirin, cimetidine, cyclosporine, hormonal contraceptives, phenytoin, sertraline, phenobarbital or medications for diabetes.
